During the 2023 Spring Season, Welsh mezzo soprano Llinos Haf Jones made her professional debut as Third Young One in Welsh National Opera’s new production of Mozart’s The Magic Flute, which toured the UK. Earlier this year Llinos toured Philadelphia, New York and Washington D.C., performing in St David’s Day concerts and events, and looks forward to returning to America in August to perform at the North American Festival of Wales in Pittsburgh. She performed in the chorus of Cherry Town, Moscow with the Welsh National Youth Opera as part of WNO’s 2022 Autumn Season. In April 2022, Llinos performed in the world premiere of Ryan Wigglesworth’s Magnificat with the Bergen Philharmonic Choir and Orchestra at the Grieghallen Concert Hall, Norway, conducted by Edward Gardner. 

 

Llinos won the prestigious Osbourne Roberts Prize following her success in the Mezzo Soprano Solo competition at the 2023 National Eisteddfod. Other recent competition triumphs include achieving Highly Commended in the Isabel Jay Memorial Prize and Commended in the Blyth-Buesst Operatic Prize at the Royal Academy of Music, winning the prestigious Blue Riband competition at Lampeter Eisteddfod, the Lady Ruth Herbert Lewis Memorial Prize and the J. Lloyd Williams Memorial Medal at the National Eisteddfod, and winning the 19-25 age Solo Competition, the Pam Weaver Scholarship and the Olwen Philips Scholarship for the most promising soloist at the Urdd Eisteddfod.

 

Llinos completed her undergraduate studies at the Royal Northern College of Music with first class honours. During her time there she won the Gwilym Gwalchmai Jones Scholarship, the James Martin Oncken Song Prize and the Manchester Welsh Society Prize. Llinos is currently studying for her master’s degree at the Royal Academy of Music under the tutelage of Marcus van den Akker and Joseph Middleton and is a grateful recipient of the Baroness de Turckheim Award 2023/24.
